Governor Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced this year's recipients of the Governor's Wellness Award. A total of 54 Nebraska employers representing 34 communities are being honored for offering evidence-based worksite wellness programs for their employees. Hastings Public Schools is one of the employers this year to receive an award and was chosen to attend a press conference held on September 18 to honor award recipients.

The Hastings Public Schools Employee Wellness program was put into place to inform, encourage and empower its staff members, incorporating seven dimensions of wellness: occupational, spiritual, emotional, physical, financial, and intellectual. six dimensions of wellnessMany community and other groups have helped to make this possible by eagerly offering services and support to help with this endeavor. Such agencies as the Educators Health Alliance (EHA), the Hastings Family YMCA, UNL Extension, South Heartland District Health Department, the YWCA, and Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, have been great help to the Hastings Public Schools in their endeavor.

In honor of their efforts, the Hastings Public Schools will be receiving the Grower Award at a ceremony to be held September 28.  The Grower Award honors businesses and organizations demonstrating significant improvement in employee health behaviors.

Hastings Public Schools continues to seek ways to create a culture of wellness in its community. We feel, if we take care of staff wellness, students will benefit greatly as well.
