Hastings Public Schools is committed to the optimal development of every student. We believe that creating positive, safe, and health-promoting learning environments is essential for students to achieve personal, academic, developmental, and social success.
Our District Wellness Policy provides a framework for ensuring opportunities for all students to practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors throughout the school day. We aim to minimize commercial distractions and promote lifelong healthy habits.
Key Components of Our Wellness Policy:
- Access to healthy foods in accordance with Federal and state nutrition standards.
- Quality nutrition education to develop lifelong healthy eating behaviors.
- Opportunities for physical activity during school.
- Promotion of nutrition and physical activity.
- Support for staff to practice healthy behaviors.
Get Involved!
We invite parents, students, school staff, health professionals, and members of the general public to join our District Wellness Committee (DWC) or their School Wellness Committee. The DWC meets at least four times per year to establish goals for and oversee school health and safety policies and programs. Each school within the District also has a School Wellness Committee (SWC) that convenes to review school-level issues, in coordination with the DWC. These teams are required to meet 4 times per year and develop goals based around nutrition, physical activity, and chronic disease.
Your involvement can help us:
- Develop, implement, monitor, and review the wellness policy.
- Address school-level issues related to nutrition, physical activity, and chronic disease.
- Create continuity between schools and other settings for students and staff to practice lifelong healthy habits.
