To All HPS Parents and Guardians:
You are cordially invited to attend a Parent/Guardian Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 7th at 5:30 p.m. This event will be held at the HPS Administration Building located at 1515 W. 8th Street. Please use the west parking lot, enter through the administration entrance, and take the elevator to the second floor, where the meeting will take place in the boardroom.
This session will be led by BraveBe Child Advocacy Center, focusing on the topic of Digital Citizenship. All HPS 4th and 6th grade students are participating in a classroom lesson on this subject during the school day this week. This meeting is a follow up discussion on how these sessions went and to help provide parents/guardians suggestions on how to help keep their
children safe online.
Key topics to be covered include:
- The concept of a digital footprint and its significance
- Identifying private information that should not be shared online or in person
- Managing digital reputation
- Understanding invisible audiences and the risks associated with public profiles
- Monitoring personal online activity and usage
- Establishing guidelines for digital behavior
- Responding to inappropriate content shared online
- The use of secondary accounts and personal experiences (applicable to 6th grade and above)
- Issues related to sexting, sharing explicit images, and sextortion (applicable to 6th grade and above)
We encourage all parents and guardians to join us on Wednesday, May 7th at 5:30 p.m. at the district office to learn more about the challenges students face in the digital environment and how to help them navigate safely.
Sincerely,
Jeff Schneider
Superintendent
