District Art Show

The Hastings Public Schools community is excited to invite the public to the District Art Show, a vibrant celebration of student creativity featuring selected artwork from 1st through 12th grade students across the district.

The Opening Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 6:30–8:30 PM (invitation only) at the HPS District Office. Guests will enjoy a stunning gallery of student work and an opportunity to meet the artists and art teachers who help make it all possible.

Art Show Viewing will remain open to the public April 24–May 6 during regular business hours at the District Office.

This year’s show is especially meaningful as it marks a revitalization of the tradition, which had paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s time to recognize the amazing things students are creating within the arts,” say HPS art teachers. “Our goal is to renew appreciation for the visual arts and showcase the remarkable talent our students bring to the classroom every day.”

Visitors can expect to see a diverse range of mediums from painting, drawing, and clay to sculpture, fibers, copper, and more. The exhibit truly represents the best of the best—each art teacher selected their top ten student pieces based on craftsmanship, creativity, and the use of different materials and techniques.

“We hope students who may not be recognized in sports or academics feel seen and celebrated through their artwork,” say organizers. “Art gives these students a place to thrive and gain confidence in their creativity.”

The elementary exhibit is also a standout feature this year, made possible by HPS’s unique commitment to providing both visual and performing arts at the elementary level. Young artists’ works demonstrate their growing mastery of skills from basic cutting and painting to more advanced techniques in watercolor, fiber, charcoal, and oil pastels.

The show is made possible thanks to the support of the Hastings Public Schools Foundation, which funded promotional materials, and local businesses including Eileen’s Cookies, What the Dickens?, and Back Alley Bakery, who have contributed to making this event a community-wide celebration.

“We are proud of our students and grateful to our community for championing the arts,” say event organizers. “Thank you for helping us showcase the creativity, skill, and hard work happening every day in our classrooms.”
