HPS Return to School Plan

July 15th, 2020

Dear HPS Parents/Guardians:

As we approach the 2020-2021 school year, we are certainly facing questions and challenges that we have never had to address before due to COVID-19.  We know that you have many questions and we hope that this communication begins to provide some clarity although many more questions will face all of us as we work through this process.

Our plan for the fall is as follow:

  • We plan to open the buildings for all students for in-person learning as originally scheduled.  Face coverings will be required for all staff members and all K-12 students when possible (pending Board approval on Aug. 10th).
  • We plan to offer on-line learning for those not able/comfortable attending.
  • We are working on many detailed procedures for each building that will be used on a daily basis such as temperature checks, hand sanitizing, heightened cleaning procedures, social distancing when possible, etc…  (see the detailed plan).  Each building will be working on the topics listed in this plan to adapt it to their specific facility.

One of the challenges we have is to align our staffing with our enrollment.  If you would like to have your student(s) enrolled in our on-line program we need to know by July 31st.   You can notify us of this by completing the online form at  You will also be receiving this form via mail and can turn in a hard copy at the District Office (1924 West A Street).  You only need to complete this item if you are NOT going to send your student to campus this fall.  This is a minimum commitment of the first quarter of the school year.

The on-line option is obviously something new, and while it will include regular daily activities that will be submitted and graded, it is not possible for it to be as comprehensive as our in-person programming.  We realize that many of you will have questions about this process as well as many other topics. We will be holding a virtual town hall meeting on Monday, July 27th at 6 PM to attempt to answer as many questions as possible about the upcoming school year.  You can attend this meeting by accessing the HPS Facebook Page (

Please know that we are doing everything possible to make the 20-21 school year as safe as we can.   More than ever, we are going to need your support and patience as we work through this unprecedented situation!  We hope you are able to join us on July 27th to continue this conversation.
