Mission & Purpose
Our fundamental purpose of Hastings Public Schools is to assure all students acquire the knowledge, skills, and behaviors essential to be successful individuals and responsible citizens. Hastings High School is committed to this mission by providing a safe, respectful, and responsible learning environment for students and staff, where students have opportunities to engage in quality learning experiences and acquire values supportive of their lifelong wellbeing.
This Positive Behavior Interventions and Support System (PBiS) is designed to facilitate high standards of behavior so that the learning and teaching in our school can be effective and students can participate positively within our school community.
Areas of Focus
We’re seeking to improve student outcomes by better understanding where challenges exist. By using data, we’ve been able to prioritize focus. Our staff is working to improve the culture of our school through positive staff and student interactions. PBIS is working toward increasing community involvement by initiating conversations with parents, families, and community members. Finally, our committee is interested in promoting healthy lifestyle choices to improve the wellbeing of our students and improve learning opportunities. Follow Up
Staff and committee members regularly meet to strategize on ways to overcome these challenges. The data we collect is shared with staff to both inform and celebrate our progress. It also lets us know where we still have work to do. Information related to those meetings and our progress can be found under the PBiS link on the www.hastingspublicschools.org website.
What does it look like at HHS?
At Hastings Senior High School, PBIS expectations are known as Tiger PRIDE. These guidelines are introduced and used by everyone at HHS to help all students function successfully. Posters are displayed around the building, and the different areas around the building have specific PRIDE expectations. P stands for purposeful in procedures. R stands for respectful and responsible. I means involved. D is determined to be safe. E stands for excellence. Students participate in weekly Tiger Wednesday mini lessons that help to reinforce PBIS expectations. In addition, Tiger Tidbits are posted around the school to remind students of important events so that they can be informed and involved.
PBiS Recognition
- Teachers and staff members recognize students who are meeting expectations by handing out PRIDE tickets. Students receive a ticket and teachers deliver the ticket stub to the office where 10 tickets are drawn randomly each week. These students get to spin the prize wheel to determine their reward.
- Perfect attendance is celebrated on a quarterly basis. Students who meet the criteria are acknowledged at the end of each 9 week period with a gathering during T3 where they enjoy a snack or treat with their peers.
