Testing Information

Grade 9

  • ITBS--The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (originally Iowa Every Pupil Test of Basic Skills) also known informally as the Iowa Tests or colloquially as ITBS tests, are standardized tests provided as a service to schools by the College of Education of the University of Iowa.

Grade 10

  • PRE-ACT--PreACT simulates the ACT testing experience within a shorter test window on all four ACT test subjects: English, math, reading and science. 

Grade 11

  • ACT--The ACT is a standardized test for college entrance. In addition to the ACT given to all juniors in the spring, there are SIX Saturdays throughout the year when students may take the test. It is recommended that students take the test more than once. Students must pay the registration fee or qualify for a waiver for Saturday tests.
  • PSAT--A standardized test for college entrance and National Merit Scholarships. This optional test is administered in the fall of the junior year. There is a charge to the student. Self-selected sophomores may also take this test for practice.

Grade 12

  • ACT--The ACT is a standardized test for college entrance. There are SIX Saturdays throughout the year when students may take the test. It is recommended that students take the test more than once. Students must pay the registration fee or qualify for a waiver for Saturday tests. Colleges use scores from tests through December of the student's senior year.
  • SAT--A standardized test for fulfilling college entrance requirements for most East/West coast colleges and for scholarship consideration. This test is NOT administered at HHS. Seniors who are planning to attend an out of state college requiring the SAT are encouraged to take this test. There is a charge. To register or find test dates, go to www.collegeboard.com.
