MEMBERSHIP & MEETINGS
All parents and guardians of students in kindergarten through 5th grade at Longfellow are automatically granted PTO membership; there are no fees to be involved. There are many ways to get involved, including volunteering for events, attending meetings, contributing to fundraisers, and taking on leadership roles

Meetings are the first Tuesday of each month, September-December and February-May, in the Longfellow Library, 6-7 pm. Childcare and pizza are provided for your children during the meeting. Attending meetings is a great way to get to know other parents, communicate with teachers, hear about upcoming school events, learn about volunteer opportunities, and voice your opinions on PTO matters.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteering for a PTO-sponsored event can be as much or as little of a time commitment as you are able. Some are one-time events; others are recurring.

  • Playground Cleanup (August current school year): Parents and students help beautify our playground and landscaping before the first day of school.
  • Teacher Breakfast: Help plan the back-to-school or end-of-year teacher breakfast or volunteer to help serve.
  • Popcorn Sales: We will bag popcorn at our monthly meetings. We will also need volunteers to hand out popcorn and collect quarters at the end of the next school day (2:20-2:45 pm).
  • Thanksgiving Lunch: Decorate the lunchroom for Thanksgiving and serve the students and teachers Thanksgiving lunch.
  • Winter Book Fair (Date TBD, typically the first week in December).
  • Carnival: Volunteer for a time slot. Multiple options include setup/teardown, ticket sales, and running a game.
  • Field Day: Drop off popsicles for field day.
  • Attend PTO meetings: Attending meetings is a great way to volunteer your time and share your ideas!

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
These positions are currently filled for the 2026 / 2027 school year, but we are happy to train you if you are interested in any of these leadership roles.

  • Leadership positions: Co-Chairs, Secretary, Treasurer
  • Holiday Parties: Plan and deliver supplies for a small craft project for Halloween, Winter, and Valentine's Day. You will be reimbursed for supplies.
  • Fundraising committee: Help plan our yearly fundraisers. We are always looking for creative ideas!
  • Carnival: Plan the annual carnival (we have all of the games/supplies and will train you!)
  • Yearbook: Gather photos and compile the annual yearbook.
  • Restaurant Nights: Plan monthly restaurant night fundraisers.

We will share volunteer opportunities, fundraiser information, and other reminders.
