On Monday night the Hastings Public School Board of Education voted to appoint Nikki Pfeil to fulfill the remaining two years of a vacated board position.
Pfeil will be sworn in in September. She will take over the position vacated by Tamisha Rose-Osgood, who resigned to take a teaching position in the district. When she resigned, the board had 45 days to select a replacement.
Pfeil was one of nine applicants for the open position. She is already on the ballot in November to be on the school board, having finished as the highest vote-getting non-incumbent candidate.
“The Board was pleased to have nine qualified candidates for this open position,” said Becky Sullivan, board president. “This close to an election, we felt it best to make this decision based on the will of the voters. Choosing someone who had already been approved in the primary was our way to honor the selection made by Hastings voters.”
Pfeil and her husband have four children, including two currently in HPS schools and two HPS graduates. She is a PA and co-owner at Integrated Pediatrics in Hastings.
“I’ve always been involved in the schools both as a parent and as a PA,” she said. “Hastings Public Schools has great programs for every kid, no matter their personality or ability. I’ve been happy with my children’s education and want to help any way I can as a board member.”
Pfeil will remain on the ballot in November. If she wins in that election, she will have the choice of which seat to hold - the final two years of Rose-Osgood’s term or the full four years of the term Pfeil is on the ballot for.
“I want to thank the board for their faith and trust in me,” Pfeil said. “I am honored to be a board member and will do my best for the district to live up to the expectations of the position.”
