Two Watson Singers in National Honor Choir!

Watson Elementary School Fifth Grade students Amelia B. and Josiah R. recently participated in the National Children’s Honor Choir in Chicago, hosted by the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE). The singers pre-learned eight selections (in five languages) before heading to Chicago for three days of intense rehearsals, followed by a concert in the renowned Chicago Symphony Hall.

The Kodály (KOH-die) concept is an experience-based approach to music education that leads to the development of basic musical skills and music literacy using resources from the folk heritage of students’ educational population. OAKE provides education, inspiration, advocacy, and community for those interested in Kodály-inspired teaching.

The singers’ parents are Dustin and Julie Runcie, and Nichole and Scott Bryant. Watson K-5 General Music Specialist is Tom Michalek.
